INFORMATIONAL SURVEY ALERT
Thanks Alexandra, for bringing a great point to our attention. Alexandra's interested in exactly "Why people are averse to grapefruit, because it’s actually quite refreshing".
This is a great question! Me being someone who loves grapefruit for the bitterness, fragrance and probably half because of it's amazing color.... I want to know everyone's answers too. I'm about to google it but I'm guessing it's mostly flavor based.
So I made a survey for y'all!!!! If you have 30 seconds to spare, please take THIS poll.
Additionally, upon first google, I found more great questions:
As well as some more answers! Apparently, grapefruit is sour, bitter and sweet all at the same time. And as many other citrus fruits do, it contains a compound called "Naringin Naringin" which is responsible for the bitter taste that people are either averse to or love based on your taste receptors/genetics. (super condensed) but seems similar to why people might like or dislike Cilantro.
Will keep you guys updated on any other interesting reasons revealed through the poll that people do/don't enjoy grapefruit. Also this reminds me to further explore beer because I'm really trying to get into IPAs but sometimes they are just way too bitter for me. Send recommendations. I think people also Like that ABV : - 0
J: Yes I also love grapefruit for its bitterness! Anyone that doesn't may enjoy this Costa Rican desert I just found: toronja rellena (stuffed grapefruit)
It's prepared by removing the grapefruit zest, slicing the top off and boiling both pieces. The insides are then hollowed out, and it's filled with a dulce de leche mixture. There are many more steps but I couldn't find a recipe that is not in Spanish and I'm running out of time! If you wanna see them made, here's a video.
If you've read through all of this, thank you! We hope you enjoyed our first newsletter. This was just a first go at it -- who knows what form this will take. And oh boy are we excited to have you all along for the journey. You can email us at our.daily.enjoy@gmail.com for literally any reason. I love to hear it all.
S: Agree!! Thanks everyone :- ) Yay
